This Is Where Their Journey Begins
CornerFocus is a charitable organization supporting the development and operation of youth sports programs.
Our Vision
To make it safer for youth and young adults in low-resourced communities to participate in sports offered by underfunded after-school programs and community athletic centers. We strongly believe in the power of belonging and the power of inclusive and equitable spaces. We strive to reinvent and reinforce the value of belonging. The pillars of CornerFocus are based on the “Triple P” motto: Protect, Prepare, Perform!
Our Mission
To be a national leader in providing underfunded sports programs with protective equipment, grants, and workshops. Educating young athletes, parents, and trainers on physical safety, conflict management, and financial literacy is a tool to build skills, confidence, and help break the cycles of poverty and street violence.
Athletics build great citizens, and those citizens have to be safe when applying their craft. CornerFocus is how we make it so.
Many of our community gyms lack the financial resources for safety equipment, supplies, and reliable facilities.
Youth in the community rely on these gyms as a safe place to build new skills, self-esteem, and discipline. When our neighborhood gyms are forced to close their doors, these youth lose the opportunity to change their futures using the skills that are instilled through sports.
PREPARE – Education is the primary tool to lift the cycle of poverty. Preparing youth with the skills to manage their physical and mental health, conflict, and finances is key to a successful future.
PROTECT – Youth sports programs instill confidence, discipline, and self-respect if done safely. Protective equipment and injury education are essential to building these skills in a safe environment.
PERFORM – Youth who perform in organized sports have increased cognitive skills, increased academic performance, and are more likely to graduate from high school and attend college.
